great gift ideas for the hard-to-buy-for hipster girl on your list November 30, 2008
i hope you liked yesterday’s post, but i know you’re asking - “what about the hipster girls? what cool gifts can i get for them?” here’s some ideas we came up with while shopping at the mall on black friday.
the first snap is a wrap cardigan from Free People. i love this store (and they are a frequent adwords advertiser that pops up on this site!) if you couldn’t get enough of all the wrap dresses that were hot this past summer, this cardigan is for you. ($128)
the next shot shows two outfits that were prominently displayed in the doorway of Free People. i liked the fact that they were showing a light-colored sweater and a dark-colored sweater, and super skinny jeans as well as slightly flaired jeans. the looks are both very current and fashion-forward, but it shows you can dress with variety and still be on the cutting edge. lucky you! (i guess that’s why the store’s called “free people” and not “fashion’s slaves.”)
the next shot was taken at Urban Outfitters - a gorgeous violet hat with lace. so vintage, and yet, so now. great gift for your girlfriend who loves hats. (you know who i’m talking about… yep - that girl. wouldn’t she look adorable in this?) ($34)
thefollowing two pictures are of the same dress - on the hanger and on me. the hanger shot shows the matching cape that goes with the dress. this outfit is chic - made of wool, it’s mid-thigh length and features brass buttons in two columns. the zipper is in the side seam. i loved it. (dress $108, cape $148)
that next picture is a bit difficult to see; sorry about that. i had to take it through the window of sephora. it’s sephora’s own train case make-up organizer. they come in different finishes and sizes. (the faux black croc was my personal fave.) i believe this size sells for $89. my best friend in new york has several of these. they are awesome and make it easy to travel with all your cosmetics. (yes, they make them bigger - don’t worry.)
the next two snaps are of another dress i fell in love with. it was light and filmy - definitely a “date dress.” it’s coolest feature was the fact that, although at first look it appears to be strapless, it actually has a flesh-toned piece that makes it a simple sleeveless style - much easier to wear. the skirt is slightly swingy and lands at the knee. ($88)
that last shot was the steal of the day! it was discovered at H&M and was marked down to ten bucks! (see the tag for evidence.) cap sleeves, white lace edging, buttons, pin tucks - what more could anyone possibly want for just $10??? answer… nothing more.
so there’s a few ideas for the girls. and guys - don’t hesitate to buy your gf clothes as a gift. my husband buys me clothes every christmas. it’s a very personal gift and it’s sweet to know what he likes to see me wear.
tomorrow - fun oddities and unique gifts for that extremely difficult-to-please hipster.
see ya then,
