hipster hair? who else but agent 99? December 5, 2008

how obsessed am i with agent 99? i had a cat named after her. (do i need to say anymore than that?) that’s her, pictured above. (first photo, top left.) wasn’t she sleek and gorgeous? and full of poise and smarter than everyone else in the room? (take my word for it — she was.) just like her namesake.

so since i idolized 99 to such a degree, i obviously was (ahem) concerned when i heard that they were making a Get Smart movie. i wanted to give anne hathaway a chance, but i was unconvinced that it would work. to be blunt, i wasn’t sure that anne hathaway could live up to barbara feldon. it was difficult enough for my cat to live up to the role, and she was a feline! anne hathaway is only a human being. how could she live up to the cool poise of feldon’s original? well, i’ll cut to the ending here - i saw the movie, and i fell in love with hathaway. she wasn’t the same 99 as barbara feldon, and i believe that was the best choice. instead of playing a caricature, she played her own interpretation of the character. i loved it.

but i also loved the fact that there were a few nods to the original, specifically the scene in which hathaway wears a bobbed wig in homage to one of the styles the original 99 was known for. this is a great style. if you’re a hipster girl searching for a new do, this might be the one.

but the short bob wasn’t the only hairstyle 99 was known for. oh no. for many seasons she wore her hair long and wavy, still with her signature bangs. this is another style any hipster girl should be proud to sport. just ask zooey deschanel (presently my favorite working actress. i watched the entire mini-series Tin Man, a remake of the Wizard of Oz, just because she played dorothy. and her band She & Him is - well - zooey-licious. très deschanel. more about that in a post coming soon…) but check those pics above!  not only is she adorable and a wonderful actress and singer, she is hip to the whole 99 style.  i knew i loved her.
