are you the new face of mankind magazine?

Erin Loechner, over at mankind mag, is doing a complete overhaul of the look of the mag, and she is searching for the “face” for that new look! if you live in the new york city tristate area and have a fun, unique look, Adam Krause [mankind's debut portrait photographer - he took the photo above and more gorgeous shots you can look at here] would love to shoot you [on film, that is!]. contact erin at erin[at]designformankind.com with a close up photo of your face [minimal make-up], and she’ll get back to you asap! really, i know one of the readers of hipsterama has the look erin is looking for.

hip hair - new ‘do with just a change of shade January 27, 2009

you’ve been trolling the internet searching for just the right hairstyle, right?

well, maybe you already have just the right style… maybe what you need is the right color.

color can change a lot, as you can see from the images above. i found them on an uber-cool digital photo retouching website you can visit here. iasn’t it an odd coincidence that one of the styles in their gallery is the short pixie i featured in an earlier post here on hipsterama? that style got lots of kudos from readers, though a few people told me they just couldn’t see themselves in it. maybe it all comes down to the shade? take it from me - a natural honey blonde who has had a spectrum of hair colors from marilyn monroe blonde to joan jett black. changing your hair’s shade may seem risky, but you can color it back faster than a cut you hate will grow back. and thanks to the amazing and wonderful world of photoshop, you can now get a computerized preview.

so come on… what are you waiting for?

vintage finds - 50s dresses made for dancing! January 26, 2009

admit it - hollywood has made you wish you could’ve been a teenager in the 50s.

remember the “enchantment under the sea” dance in Back to the Future? (if you don’t - go rent that movie immediately!) well, for me, it’s the clothes that stand out the most in that movie’s stylized reproduction of a 50s high school dance. remember the dress worn by marty’s mom, lorraine? wow. (that’s it in the top left pic.) it’s a shame you can’t go back in a tricked out delorean. but no worries. get yourself a dress from the array above, and you’re almost there…

hip scarf for when a scarf is too much January 23, 2009

you know those days when you want something warm around your neck but you can’t stand the thought of a bulky scarf? of course you do. sometimes it’s because the neckline of your outfit won’t work with something wadded up around your throat, and sometimes it’s just that the thought of wrapping something akin to a throw blanket around your neck just isn’t doing it for you.

so what’s the solution, you ask? voila! the scarflet.
