ben sherman - the god of mod March 5, 2009

Filed under: general, guys clothing, hip clothing, hip culture, hip style — admin @ 11:54 am
Ben Sherman was the Mod God.

Ben Sherman, the man who started making shirts in the late 1950’s from a small factory in Brighton, went on to dress the swinging Sixties & became the King of trend-setting Carnaby Street. Hungry for money and fame, he founded the Ben Sherman Company in 1963. Originally focused on the perfect shirt, his shirts had certain unique features – a button down collar, a back pleat and loop – which are now instantly recognized Ben Sherman details.

Ben Sherman has developed from its original roots as the status shirt brand, into a complete lifestyle brand. The most enduring British youth phenomenon since the teenager was invented - The Mod - adopted the brand as its style trademark. The Mod movement was always about everything a teenager aspires to be – stylish, smart, tough, streetwise, good-looking and popular. As true originals, the Mod’s became national and world news.  The media gave them the glamour of notoriety, the police made them outlaws, and their parents were outraged by them. Youth, of course, embraced them, and the cult was born. Elements of Mod dress have been the starting point for most street styles, and for every revival, appropriation or reinvention of Mod fashion, one of the original references is always Ben Sherman, for its smart street style and attitude.

hipster style, hand-made and heartwarming February 19, 2009

click on the pics, then click again, to see them enlarged.

recently i discovered a great etsy seller named jenya. once i regained my cool over what an awesomely hip name she had, i checked out her stores…

EvaForeva and forEvaMore

and what was my second cool discovery about jenya, after her fantastic name? i discovered that she donates $1 from every sale from EvaForeva to Polaris Project. As described on the store’s website, Polaris Project is “one of the largest organizations in the United States with comprehensive approach to combating human trafficking by conducting direct outreach and victim identification, providing social services and transitional housing to victims, operating the central national hotline on human trafficking, advocating for stronger state and Federal anti-trafficking legislation, and engaging community members in local and national grassroots efforts. For more information and victims’ testimonials please go to www.polarisproject.org.”

how great is that? you can look hip and help an immensely important cause at the same time.

ciao,
julie

first row:
Old Style Cloche with Young Twist Very 1920s but how cool? Modern beannie with a drop of old style cloche from the past.

Biggest of Them All Multicolor Cowl / Neckwarmer The biggest in my shop – monstrosity at it’s best :) It features pumpkin, rusty red, cranberry red, and mustard yellow colors. You can turn it around to showcase different combination of colors every day. Very bright, juicy, and one of a kind.

Huge Pumpkin Orange Neckwarmer with Buttons (Most Popular Design) This one opens up so you can button it up many different ways and no worry about messing up your hair while putting it on. Two brown buttons on both sides. As all of my huge neckwarmers, it’s very wide to keep your back warm.

second row:
Black / Brown Chunky Neckwarmer Opens up and closes with a magnet. Very elegant and low maintenance (perfect for men).

Huge Mustard Yellow Victorian Cowl / Neckwarmer Since most of my neckwarmers are quite modern and hip, I wanted to make on that is soft and girly. This one features a vintage sky blue lace that makes a beautiful accent to the color of the neckwarmer. As all of my huge neckwarmers, it’s very wide to keep your back warm.

Huge Black Unisex Cowl / Neckwarmer Like all of my huge neckwarmers, it’s very wide to keep your back warm.

bottom row - from forEvaMore store:
Izzy, Cashmere Flower Pin Upcycled from 100% cashmere, it has been cut by hand and the edges of each part has been serged using invisible thread. Then, it’s been assembled using, again, invisible thread (not the easiest to work with but you virtually can’t see it) and a brooch pin had been attached to the back. You can attach it to whatever you want – your favorite headband, clothing, hat, hand cuff, purse… Colors from bottom up: purple, lilac, lilac

Galya, Cashmere Flower Ponytail Headband Upcycled from 100% cashmere, it had been cut by hand and the edges of each part had been serged using invisible thread. Then, it’s been assembled using, again, invisible thread (not the easiest to work with but you virtually can’t see it) and attached to the black ponytail headband. You or your little girl can even wear it as a bracelet. Colors from bottom up: red, tan, tan

Lia, Cashmere Flower Headband Upcycled from 100% cashmere, it has been cut by hand and the edges of each part has been serged using invisible thread. Then, it’s been assembled using, again, invisible thread (not the easiest to work with but you virtually can’t see it) and attached to the pink headband. The headband is sized for children but should fit older babies and younger teens. Colors from bottom up: lilac, tan, lilac

hipster fashion straight outa seoul February 13, 2009

Filed under: general, guys clothing, hip clothing, hip style — admin @ 6:21 pm

(sorry the images are so small! click on the pics, and then click again, to see them larger…)

i don’t do a lot of posts featuring street fashions, but today korea was on my mind.

why, you may wonder? well, recently the korean version of the Grammy Awards took place in seoul, and i could not get over the clothes on the acts that took the stage. incredible color, great design… so that sent me looking for what “real men of seoul” wear. and i was not disappointed. hope you are inspired, as well.

ciao!
