twilight vintage - bella’s bowling shirt May 20, 2009

Twilight… i guess you either get it, or you don’t.

i personally hadn’t given it half a thought, since i was under the impression that only teenagers would appreciate it. i was wrong. i rented the movie a week ago and i think i have now watched it about 459 times, give or take a few. yes, it’s corny. yes, it’s campy. but in this case, corny + campy = COMPELLING. it’s like a horrible bloody wreck along the side of the road. i just can’t tear my eyes away…

among its charms, you have to consider bella’s awesome wardrobe. and how can you not love a teenage girl who wears a vintage bowling shirt to the first day at her new school? great choice, bells.

Hip Hair - Zooey Deschanel March 31, 2009

can we all just agree that zooey deschanel is amazing?

somehow, she grew up and developed a very human realness, despite the fact that she is the child of “industry” parents (she is the daughter of Academy Award-nominated cinematographer and director Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo (Weir) Deschanel.) good job, mommy and daddy deschanel! thanks for managing to raise a girl in La-La Land and somehow turning out a wonderful woman of substance instead of yet another plastic surgery addict.

Hip Hair - the many ‘dos of Johnny Depp March 26, 2009

johnny depp is a chameleon.

if you doubt the truth of that statement, all you need to do is watch Pirates of the Carribean and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory back-to-back to see how changeable depp is.

so i assumed he’d be an easy subject for a hair post. after all, he’s had a variety of looks. what a mistake! depp has had so many transformations - from length to facial hair to highlights to hats - that he was an impossible subject to narrow to nine pictures. so i cheated. above - 12 photos that fall into four general categories:

top row - length:
depp super shorn
with shorter than short hair
with long hair

second row - facial hair:
depp clean shaven
with a stubbly beard
the outer limits of depp facial hair

third row - color:
with spiky red hair
blonde highlights
dark brown

bottom row - hats!:
with one of his fave fedoras
another fave of depps
with another version of the depp fedora

hip (vintage) hair - the incomparable audrey hepburn March 12, 2009

just her name - Audrey Hepburn - says it all.

so this post will be heavy on photos, light on words. because her life - as an actress, as a humanitarian, as a mother - was the kind of life that speaks for itself.

so consider this post a love letter to audrey. because i loved her. and i always will.
