underground music posters=total hipness April 2, 2009

Filed under: general, hip culture, hip decor, hip entertainment, hip gifts, hip style, music, shop — admin @ 11:06 am

(click on images to see them fully (the rapture poster had to be slightly cropped, but all the others will fully expand when double clicked.))

you know how you turned your friends onto your favorite little-known band, and now they act like they discovered it all by themselves and think they are suddenly the “gods of cool-dom” because they have YOUR discovery on THEIR ipods? well, never fear - you are about to out-cool them to the extreme!

(okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh… it’s good to share info about great music, even with your ungrateful friends, right? so think of the advice that follows as another means of spreading the word about underground music, even though it does carry the side-benefit of displaying your consummate coolness.)

introducing the most incredible source of the best gig posters being made in the growing underground poster scene - Poster Cabaret. you are going to be blown away from the moment you enter this unique website. it will open up a whole secret world of dazzling music-related art to you (and, through you, your less-cool friends. *sigh*) and if you prefer art for its own sake, Poster Cabaret also offers limited edition and hand made art prints, often times made by the same artists making gig posters.

nothing can substitute for clicking right here and wandering around the gallery or searching by band name for limited edition gig posters. but to give you a taste of what awaits you, i have tortuously selected the above array of nine.  these are not meant to represent the best - that would be immmmpoooooossssible!  they are simply meant to serve as a sampling of the incredible variety.

oh, and the prices are totally affordable.  in other words - these posters are perfect

and with that, i’ll leave you to the personal torment of selecting which you will purchase.

bonne chance,
julie

hip style - geek chic January 14, 2009

Filed under: general, hip culture, hip decor, hip style — admin @ 1:12 pm
i don’t know about you, but i adore “geek chic.”

there’s just something adorable about a smart shy guy. i even have a t-shirt emblazoned i love dorks. it’s red, so i wear it to a lot of Phillies games. (yes, i am a huge fan of the world champion philadelphia phillies!) for some reason, my husband and son don’t seem to appreciate the fact that they have to sit next to me when i’m wearing that particular shirt. go figure?

so the array above features products that might stir your heart if you have that secret love of geekness, or maybe might be just the perfect thing for the geek you love.

top row:
mimoco golden panda flash drive from modcloth.com
driver LED emoticon from thinkgeek.com (tell me you don’t love this idea!)
duct tape wallet from thinkgeek.com (in geekdom, duct tape fashion is like gucci. trust me.)
second row:
khet laser game from thinkgeek.com
ipod sound ball from dreams6.com (sound balls are currently available only in japan, but you can order it if you can figure out this website written in japanese sprinkled with english.)
giant robot wall graphics from kleargear.com

and to cap it off, the kings of black-framed-glasses-wearing geek-chic, weezer, singing their anthem of being on the outside - beverly hills.

enjoy!

hip style - how to spend the money your grandma gave you December 26, 2008

Filed under: general, girls clothing, guys clothing, hip clothing, hip decor, hip style — admin @ 11:51 pm
happy (belated) boxing day!

i realize this is rather late (it’s 11.:30 pm my time) but i came down with a rather unfortunate Christmas cold. doesn’t that sound awful? well, it is.

still, it is the day after Christmas, and that means that your Christmas money is burning a hole in your pocket, isn’t it? forget the economy. your grandma didn’t give you that cash to spend on the electric bill, she wants you to go buy something nice for yourself. so here are some uber-hip items that i found surfing the net from my sick bed.

:)

enjoy!
